Archive for July 2011
The National Restaurant Association recently debuted their new Kids LiveWell healthy dining program and to that we say, “Right on!”
For children at restaurants it often seems like their menu consists solely of hot dogs, hamburgers, french fries, and the ubiquitous fried chicken strips, with nary a fresh option in sight. But eating out doesn’t have to mean eating unhealthily.
A core group of chain restaurants have been working with dieticians to come up with menu choices that emphasize lean proteins, fruit, vegetables, whole grains and low-fat dairy.
Don’t get us wrong, we love our junk food — we use all of those things on our slices!
We just like that there will be better choices for kids.

Bake & Destroy’s SugarSlam 2011

It’s almost time for the winner to be announced for Bake & Destroy’s wrestling-themed bake-off (SugarSlam 2011: Whisks of Fury) and are we ever excited. Ian’s Pizza Wrigleyville created three special pizzas just for this event: the Understeaker, Nacho-Macho Man, and the special for this week July 4-10, C.M. Punk’s G.T.S. (Go To Sleep).
Named for his signature “knee-to-the-face” move, our G.T.S. is a little less dangerous and a lot more delicious (that was our goal, anyway…). It features smoked turkey leg from Paulina Meat Market, sliced potatoes, swiss cheese, and french fried onions on a creme fraiche base.
We think the best way to eat that slice is with a big glass of Pepsi and plan on taking a nap immediately after. But then again, we feel that way about pretty much all our slices.
P.S. Feeling inspired to do a little wrestling-themed baking yourself? The deadline’s not until July 11th, so there’s still time to get in the kitchen and get to work. Visit http://sugarslam2011.com/ and prepare to Bake & Destroy!
