It’s that magical time at the end of June/start of July when Milwaukee, Wisconsin becomes a destination for all types of music lovers. We at Ian’s Pizza Milwaukee sat down and decided the five acts we are most excited to see at Summerfest 2015.
1) The Rolling Stones
When the entire schedule of Summerfest was shifted back one day, you knew they were bringing in a great band. The Rolling Stones will treat generations of fans with this special one-night-only show at the Marcus Amphitheater on Tuesday, June 23rd. With rumors of this being possibly their last tour, ticket prices are some of the highest ever seen in Summerfest history. If you are a fan, or even if you only want to see musical history in the making, there is no way you are missing this show.
2) Zac Brown Band
Let me start by saying that I am not a fan of most modern country music… but I love Zac Brown Band. If you have still not seen these guys, GO! Consistent touring over the last couple of years has fine-tuned these extremely talented musicians. Coming off the release of their fourth studio album, “Jekyll + Hyde” Zac Brown Band also has an arsenal of cover songs that they throw into their sets. You could hear anything from Billy Joel’s “Piano Man” to Led Zeppelin’s “Kashmir” which makes for an awesome live show experience. Zac Brown Band plays at the Marcus Amphitheater on Sunday, June 28th.
3) Linkin Park
Linkin Park has sold more than 60 million records. Their release of “Hybrid Theory” in 2000 brought them not only U.S. but global success and playing huge arena shows is now a regular occurrence. Their live show will bring a wide variety of sound levels, ranging from hardcore metal (there will be moshpits!) to dramatic and slow piano moments, hip-hop verses, turntable scratching, and electronic-driven beats. Check them out at the Marcus Amphitheater on Tuesday, June 30th.
4) The Flaming Lips
Let’s get weird. The Flaming Lips have become known for their creative costumes and on-stage antics. The band’s lead vocalist and frontman, Wayne Coyne, will transport you to his whimsical world of weird with their own original music and re-imaginations of The Beatles “Lucy in the Sky With Diamonds” and Pink Floyd’s “Dark Side of the Moon.” It is really awesome that they will be bringing their main stage production to a “free” stage playing Saturday, June 27th at the BMO Harris Pavilion.
5) Webster X
One of our favorite regular customers, Milwaukee’s hip-hop talent Webster X has earned his spot on the Summerfest lineup. It is great to see how far Webster X has come since his first release, “Desperate Youth” in 2013, growing his fan base and establishing roots in the Milwaukee music scene. You can see Webster X perform on Friday June 3rd on the Miller Lite Oasis Stage.
Don’t forget that there are great transportation options to get you to and from the festival to North Ave. or Water Street, making Ian’s Pizza the perfect spot to grab some food before or after the shows. We hope you all enjoy Summerfest 2015 — see you on the dance floor!
